Welcome to STARLIGHTWALKER.COM

This website is intended to document and track my journey along a path of personal growth I began in 2006. As this journey is still underway and very much in its early stages, it is difficult to predict precisely how this website will evolve. For the time being I intend for it to serve as both a creative outlet for me and as a means of holding myself accountable for decisions and commitments I make along my path. Most importantly, my hope is that this site will be a fun way for me to share and connect with others as my journey unfolds.

By way of a disclaimer, let me acknowledge up front that although I am currently a student of some non-traditional spiritual practices I am by no means a guru, sage, master, shaman, wizard, avatar, or any other sort of “special” being. That is, of course, unless you recognize that we are all “special” beings – angels in disguise as it were – and need only a gentle reminder to help us step into our integrity and spread our wings!

Beyond success

Success – however you may define it – has limitations that are not obvious at first glance. While it is a cliché that material or financial success do not necessarily result in happiness, even success defined in a broader and more generous sense has a limited ability to produce lasting fulfillment and joy. Success usually implies achieving goals, and this certainly can be an important aspect of true fulfillment – but it is only partially fulfilling, as I found in both my personal and professional life. Doing and having are great – accomplishments and possessions or experiences that expand us as individuals are thrilling to pursue up to a point.

But there comes a point in everyone’s life where being - ones' essence - needs to be considered. Underneath my roles and achievements who am I really? Is my essence physical, or is there more? It is only by actively engaging with and exploring these questions that we begin to reveal ourselves as we truly are. I think Yoda may have said it best when he told Luke: "Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter . . ."

Creating the life of your dreams

One of the central themes of my journey is an exploration of the power of creativity. Indeed, the key impetus that got me started along this path of personal growth and spiritual development was a workshop called “Your Life As Art” that I attended in the autumn of 2006. Taught by Robert and Rosalind Fritz, this workshop opened my eyes to the power we have to create the life of our dreams if we are willing to commit to becoming the predominant creative force in our lives and to learning and practicing the fundamentals of the creative process.

Shortly after attending that workshop I joined an unrelated, but equally inspirational program called SpiritWeavers, which introduced me to an intriguing and immensely practical method of personal transformation based on a variety of shamanic and Native American teachings. Key among those teachings are those of the Toltec tradition as popularized by Carlos Castaneda and Don Miguel Ruiz. My instruction in these teachings and traditions has continued under the auspices of the Toltec Center of Creative Intent.

This website is dedicated to an exploration of the creative as it relates to creating one’s life – both in its inner, experiential dimension and in its outward manifestation in the “real” world.  The underlying intent is not only to document my journey along this path, but to use this site as a medium of reflection that allows sufficient perspective to frame that path on its own terms – as much as possible free from distortions or filtering based on pre-conceived categories or concepts.  My explorations thus far have convinced me that abstract concepts do not serve me nearly as well as immediate experience and relentless observation: for me at least, the unique is the doorway to the universal, not the reverse.  Let the exploration begin!

It Felt Love

How
Did the rose
Ever open its heart

And give to this world
All its
Beauty?

It felt the encouragement of light
Against its
Being.

Otherwise,
We all remain
Too frightened.
